Ingredients
- 4 lb beef brisket, trimmed
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 onions, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 bay leaves
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 300°F.
- 2Pat the brisket dry and season generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- 3Heat the oil in a large roasting pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat and sear the brisket for 4-5 minutes per side until browned; remove and set aside.
- 4Add the onions to the pot and cook for 6-7 minutes until softened, then add the garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
- 5Stir in the beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and smoked paprika, mixing well.
- 6Return the brisket to the pot fat-side up, add the bay leaves, cover tightly, and braise in the oven for 3.5 hours, until the meat is fork-tender.
- 7Rest the brisket for 15 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain and serve with the pan sauce spooned over the top.
