  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (85/15)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp ketchup

Instructions

  1. 1In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. 2Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned; remove and set aside.
  3. 3Add the remaining oil to the pan and cook the onion and mushrooms for 6-7 minutes until softened and golden.
  4. 4Sprinkle in the flour and stir to coat, cooking for 1 minute, then whisk in the beef broth and ketchup.
  5. 5Bring the gravy to a simmer, then return the patties to the pan, cover, and cook for 8-10 minutes until the patties are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
  6. 6Serve the patties smothered in the onion gravy, with mashed potatoes if desired.
