Ingredients
- 6 cups cubed day-old bread
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
- 2Spread the cubed bread evenly in the prepared dish and scatter the raisins over top if using.
- 3Whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- 4Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down gently so the cubes soak it up.
- 5Let the dish sit for 10 minutes so the bread can absorb the liquid, then drizzle with the melted butter.
- 6Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until puffed, golden, and set in the center.
- 7Let cool for 10 minutes before serving warm.
