Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts
- 6 cups peeled, sliced apples
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten, for brushing
Instructions
- 1Preheat the oven to 400°F and fit one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
- 2Toss the sliced apples with the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a large bowl.
- 3Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot the top with the butter pieces.
- 4Cover with the second crust, trim and crimp the edges, and cut a few slits in the top to vent steam.
- 5Brush the top crust with the beaten egg.
- 6Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling through the vents.
- 7Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing so the filling can set.
