Ingredients
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices cheddar cheese, optional
Instructions
- 1Heat the olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium-low heat, add the onion, and cook slowly for 18 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden and soft.
- 2Stir in the brown sugar during the last 2 minutes of cooking the onions, then set them aside.
- 3While the onions cook, gently mix the ground pork with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and shape into 4 patties.
- 4Heat a clean skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 5 to 6 minutes per side, until they reach 160°F internally.
- 5Top each patty with a slice of cheddar cheese during the last minute of cooking if using, so it melts.
- 6Toast the buns lightly, then build the burgers with the patties and a generous pile of caramelized onions.
