Classic Bread Stuffing

Ingredients

  • 10 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh sage
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 350 F and spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet; toast for 10 minutes until dry and lightly golden.
  2. 2Melt the butter in a large skillet and cook the celery and onion until soft, about 6-8 minutes, then stir in the garlic, sage, and thyme.
  3. 3Transfer the toasted bread to a large bowl and add the vegetable mixture, tossing to combine.
  4. 4Whisk the broth and eggs together, then pour over the bread mixture along with salt and pepper, stirring until evenly moistened.
  5. 5Transfer to a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 25 minutes.
  6. 6Uncover and bake for another 15-20 minutes, until the top is golden and crisp.
