Ingredients
- 4 lb pork shoulder (pork butt)
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup barbecue sauce, plus more for serving
- 8 hamburger buns
Instructions
- 1In a small bowl, mix the paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper, then rub the mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- 2Place the seasoned pork shoulder into the slow cooker and pour the chicken broth around the sides.
- 3Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 5 hours, until the pork is very tender and shreds easily with a fork.
- 4Transfer the pork to a large bowl or cutting board, discard any excess fat, and shred the meat using two forks.
- 5Skim excess fat from the liquid left in the slow cooker, then stir the shredded pork back in along with the barbecue sauce.
- 6Let the pork sit in the sauce on warm for about 10 minutes so it can soak up the flavor, then pile onto buns and serve with extra barbecue sauce.
