Ingredients
- 3 cups self-rising flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp cold butter, cubed
- 1 1/4 cups milk, plus extra for brushing
Instructions
- 1Preheat oven to 425°F and dust a baking sheet with flour.
- 2Whisk the flour and salt together, then rub in the cold butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- 3Make a well in the center and pour in the milk, stirring with a knife until a soft dough forms.
- 4Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape gently into a round loaf, being careful not to overwork it.
- 5Place on the baking sheet, cut a deep cross into the top, and brush with a little milk.
- 6Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- 7Serve warm with butter and golden syrup.
