Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (7g) active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/4 cups warm milk or water
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- 1Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk or water and let sit until foamy.
- 2Combine flour and salt, then mix in the yeast mixture and melted butter to form a soft dough.
- 3Knead until smooth, then cover and let rise in a warm place for about 45-60 minutes until doubled.
- 4Roll the risen dough out to about 1.5cm thickness and cut into small squares or diamonds.
- 5Heat oil in a deep pot to medium heat.
- 6Fry the pieces in batches, turning occasionally, until puffed and golden brown on all sides.
- 7Drain on paper towels.
- 8Serve warm, traditionally alongside tea, jam, or honey.
